In September 2023, Pava LaPere hit major headlines following her demise.

She was found dead on Monday, September 25 in a downtown Baltimore apartment with signs of blunt-force trauma to her head.

The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) said that the EcoMap Technologies founder and CEO was discovered dead in an apartment in the Mount Vernon neighborhood around 11:35 a.m. on Monday.

At a press conference on Tuesday, 26 September, acting BPD commissioner, Richard Worley announced a warrant for arresting a 32-year-old suspect in the murder of LaPere, Jason Billingsley.

Billingsley is said to have been released less than a year ago after serving only seven years of a 30-year sentence. He was convicted of a first-degree sex offense in 2015

LaPere’s company announced her death in a statement on Tuesday, saying it was an “unimaginable tragedy” and that the circumstances surrounding LaPere’s death were “deeply distressing.”

EcoMap Technologies said LaPere was “not only the visionary force behind EcoMap but was also a deeply compassionate and dedicated leader”

“Her untiring commitment to our company, to Baltimore, to amplifying the critical work of ecosystems across the country, and to building a deeply inclusive culture as a leader, friend, and partner set a standard for leadership, and her legacy will live on through the work we continue to do,” the company added.

Earlier this year (2023), she was named on the Forbes 30 under 30 list in the social impact category. Forbes said her clients included The Aspen Institute, Meta, the WXR Fund, and the T. Rowe Price Foundation.
