Clayne Crawford was born on April 20, 1978 as Joseph Crawford. He was born in Clay, Alabama to the family of Matthew Vincent and Lennie Crawford. He attended Hewitt-Trussville High School in Jefferson County, Alabama, where he took a keen interest in athletic pursuits. In high school, Crawford played basketball and football and was also on the school wrestling team. After graduating, he continued his studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he continued to play basketball.
