Tyler, the Creator along with the rest of Odd Future have sometimes been labeled as homophobic because of some of their controversial raps. Nonetheless, Tyler has been supportive of his OF affiliate, Frank Ocean, since he came out publicly and before then, so it would appear that, that labeling is incorrect. In a new interview with RollingStone Tyler speaks on when he found out Frank was gay, and why he doesn't care.
It turns out Tyler found out about Frank's sexuality before the rest of the world did, "Yeah, I was one of the first people he told. I kinda knew, because he likes Pop Tarts without frosting on them, so I knew something was weird. [Laughs] But that's my nigga."
Tyler has been slammed before for using the word "faggot," but as Tyler explains, it's just "another word" to him. This parallels the OF frontman's views on the word "nigga." Tyler said of whether or not Frank cares about him using the word "faggot,"
"He knows me, and he knows I don't care about being gay. It's just another word to me. The same as "nigga." Let's say Frank started using the word "fag," just jokingly. People would be so fucking confused! They wouldn't know what to do. And it could take the power out of that word."
Tyler's new album, Wolf, is due out April 2nd.
